China Southern Airlines has increased its free, checked baggage allowances on a range of international and Chinese domestic air routes.

Initially until October 31, economy class passengers using published airfares on the Sydney-Guangzhou and Melbourne-Guangzhou routes will be entitled to check in up to 30kg of luggage free of charge, while premium business class passengers on the same routes will be able to check in 40kg without fees.

Chinese passport holders travelling on student visas between Australia and China will be entitled to 40kg when travelling in Economy Class, recognising that they may be travelling to Australia for an extended period of study, or returning during a break or at the end of their course.

The new economy and premium business class limits each represent an increase of 10kg per passenger.

China Southern is also increasing checked baggage allowances on a range of other key international routes including Amsterdam, Paris, Dubai and Los Angeles.

Additionally, where passengers fly on an international sector with China Southern, then continue on a domestic China flight with the airline, the baggage allowance will be the same on the internal routes as it is on the originating international service.

The new baggage allowances apply only for China Southern Airlines flights only, cannot be combined with flights on other carriers and must be endorsed on the ticket at issue.
