Virgin Blue offshoot Pacific Blue says it will launch a Sydney-Wellington service in September.

A special launch fare will be on the internet today, with regular lead-in fares starting from A$239 one-way.

“This is exactly what we need when we need it – a low cost carrier from a key Australian market,” Positively Wellington Tourism (PWT) CEO David Perks said in welcoming the announcement.

Pacific Blue incrementally increased its Brisbane-Wellington flights from three to eight per week over the second half of last year, Perks said.

“This has been an incredible success story for our city and a vital factor in the development of our Australian visitor numbers. Airlines are providing the seats and we’re determined to fill them.”
The timing of today’s announcement couldn’t be more perfect, with PWT having recently completed distribution of 35,000 ‘Hand Picked’ guides to Sydney homes. The guides position
Wellington as creative, edgy, welcoming and stylish. Time Out – Sydney’s entertainment bible – will be publishing a 32-page guide to the capital in August.
