$10m Perth forecourt upgrade completed
2:39 PM :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Airport News, Australia

Major works at the front of Perth Airport’s domestic terminals are now complete with new traffic lanes and undercover walkways open to the public.

The investment of $10 million was undertaken to improve traffic flow into and out of the domestic precinct and included the construction of dedicated lanes for taxis, buses and passenger pick-up/drop-off zones, with covered canopies providing greater protection from the weather.

Perth Airport CEO Brad Geatches said the completion of these works would be welcomed by frequent travellers to the domestic terminals.

“Undertaking major works in a 24/7 airport operating environment means there will always be a level of disruption and we thank the travelling public for their patience while these works were undertaken," he said.

"The dedicated traffic lanes for taxis, buses and the general public have been designed to improve vehicle and pedestrian access into and out of the domestic terminals and will improve the journey for all airport users, particularly frequent travellers.

“The new permanent passenger drop-off and pick-up lane includes overhead canopies for weather protection and extends along the entire front of the domestic terminals. “The eight bay taxi boarding area, located in front of Domestic Terminal 3, has already reduced waiting time for passengers to around 10 minutes in peak times and taxi drivers can queue far easier with the new system.

“We’ve also upgraded and re-opened Fast track premium business parking which now features over 220 covered parking bays in close proximity to the terminals and is most suited for business travellers wanting a premium product.

“Another major improvement we’ll be making in the near future is the re-zoning of the forecourt to become a completely smoke-free zone for the comfort of all visitors to the domestic terminals,” Geatches said.
